Why did you decide to run for this office in 2025?

I have been a member of the Amarillo College Board of Regents since first elected in 2000. One of the most important duties of the AC Board is hiring the president of Amarillo College. I have served under six presidents during my tenure, our having most recently hired Dr. Jamelle Conner. I am proud of the fact that I got my start at Amarillo College and matriculated into dental school after one additional year at University of Houston. Dr Conner is highly qualified and I intend to give her my full support.

One important focus of Amarillo College has been serving less traditional students giving them an avenue to higher education and an opportunity to have a tract to higher paying jobs in the future. It is my desire to see to it that Amarillo College continues to serve these students as well as all students at the institution.

If elected, what will be your top three priorities in office?

Continue to offer an affordable education for our students with low tuition and encourage programs like THRIVE in Amarillo and QUEST in Dumas to provide free tuition and books for high school students who qualify.

Continue to use our data to improve student success. We have a robust tutoring and student tracking system and I want to insure students that we have their success at the forefront.

Work to improve seamless transitions to four year universities.

What is an issue you believe has gone overlooked in your race and how will you address it if elected?

I believe the quality and affordability of education is often overlooked and simply hope to inform the public.

What is your position on the issue of taxpayer-funded lobbying? Please explain.

We have no taxpayer-funded lobbyists.

Why are you the best candidate for voters to support for this position?

I have 25 years experience with Amarillo College. We have a very successful and

nationally recognized community college with which I have been proudly

associated as a regent.
